One of important activities of the
Welfare Funds is to provide medical facilities to the miners/Beedi Workers and their families. Since the residential colonies of miners/Beedi Workers are located at Dispensaries in each residential locality, it becomes necessary to run mobile medical units so as to cater to the needs of the workers and their families at
their doorstop. Where miners/Beedi workers are small, and not concentrated at any particular place but are
distributed all over the region, the provision of a Mobile Medical Unit is the
best method to meet the medical needs of the workers satisfactorily.
The Head-quarters of the Van will be
located at a suitable place preferably attached to the hospital or dispensary
it will be making trips as per programme laid down by
the Welfare Commissioner of the region concerned. Medicines, equipments etc. to
be provided in the Mobile Van will be decided by the Welfare Commissioner in
consultation with District Medical authorities of State Government or Medical
Officer of the Fund, provided that the expenditure on furniture and equipment
will not exceed Rs.1,500/- and that on medicines, Rs.10,000/- (Rs.13,000/- for
Iron, Manganese & Chrome Ore ). Serious cases will be transferred to
hospital under the Fund or Government Hospitals for treatment.
The non-recurring expenditure on the Mobile Medical Unit will
comprise the cost of a Jeep (which will be procured at D.G.S. & D rates),
charges for body building and cost of furniture and equipment. The recurring
expenditure will comprise the cost of medicines, registration charges of the
vehicle and expenses on petrol, rent for garage, where necessary pay and
allowances of staff. The staff will consist of :
