3.5 Labour Bureau (LB)

Labour Bureau, an attached office of the Ministry of Labour & Employment
headquartered at Chandigarh with Nine Regional Offices at Ahmedabad,
Kanpur, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Guwahati, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Indore.
The organisation is headed by Director General. The Bureau is responsible for
the collection, collation and dissemination of labour, employment and price
statistics; important among these are the Consumer Price Index Numbers for
Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), Agricultural and Rural Labourers (CPI-AL/ RL),
Wage Rate Indices, wages, earnings, absenteeism, labour turnover, industrial
relations etc. The Bureau also collects administrative statistics under the 11
Labour Acts.
