3.5.2 The brief job description of various posts in the Headquarters Regional
Offices of Labour Bureau is as under.
• Deputy Director General (DDG 1): Supervision of all Administration and
Budget related work. Additionally, DDG looks after the supervision of
administrative labour statistics and digitalization.

• Deputy Director General (DDG 2): Supervision of all price indices (CPI-
IW and CPI-AL/RL); alongwith various publications released by Labour
Bureau. Also, in-charge of all Regional Offices.

• Deputy Director General (DDG 3): Supervision of conduct of All-India
surveys, Occupational Wage Survey and Coordination division.
• Director/ Deputy Secretary/ Joint Director: Overall in-charge of key
schemes of Labour Bureau i.e., CPI-IW, CPI-AL/RL, Surveys, Labour
Statistics, Administration, Publications. Responsible for coordination and
monitoring of various related activities for the smooth conduct of allocated
work.

The nine Regional Offices of Labour Bureau are generally headed by Assistant
Director/ Investigator Grade-I/ SSO level officer:
• Assistant Director: Discharges the duties of Head of Office at the Regional
Office. Responsible for all the entrusted work in the region assigned to the
RO. Responsible for providing logistical support for price audits as well
as all-India surveys. Responsible for settling TA/DA bills of contractual
as well as regular staff. They also have to work in close coordination
with the State Govt. departments/agencies for ensuring timely supplying
of monthly price returns for compilation of price indices and requisite
statistical data for different publications.

• Investigator Grade I/ EO/ SSO and Investigator Grade II: Responsible for
conducting price inspections/ price audits for CPI-IW. The Regional Offices
cover 88 centers across the country encompassing about 317 markets. The
centers and markets are divided across all Regional Offices. Further, Repeat
House Rent Survey (RHRS), an integral part of CPI-IW; is also conducted
by them every 6 months.
