                3.6  Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS)

               Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), a subordinate office of Ministry of
               Labour & Employment. DGMS administers the provisions of the Mines Act, 1952
               and Rules & Regulations framed thereunder viz. the Coal Mines Regulations, 2017,
               the Metalliferous Mines Regulations, 1961, the Oil Mines Regulations, 2017, the
               Mines Rules, 1955, the Mines Vocational Training Rules, 1966, the Mines Rescue
               Rules, 1985, the Mines Creche Rules, 1966, the Coal Mines Pit Head Bath Rules,
               1959, the Electricity Act, 2003 (related to Mines safety) to ensure the occupational
               safety  and  welfare  of  mine  workers.  Besides,  DGMS  also  administers  certain
               provisions of Central Electricity Authority (Measure relating to Safety and electric
               Supply) Regulation, 2023.

               The headquarter of DGMS is located at Dhanbad, Jharkhand. DGMS is headed
               by the Chief Inspector of Mines & Director General of Mines Safety. Further,
               DGMS has eight zonal offices across the country; each zone is under charge of
               Deputy Director General (DDG). There are four to six regional offices under each
               Zone. At present there are 38 regional offices which are headed by Director of
               Mines Safety. The Organisational Chart of DGMS is given below: -
