• Developing and carrying out programmes of conducting health surveys of
workers in mines.
• To carry out investigation into the causes and incidence of occupational
diseases in mines.
• To inspect provision of maternity benefit act, 1961 and maternity (Mines)
Rules, 1963 in mines.
• To inspect provisions of mines crèches rules in mines other than coal
mines.
• To promote training in first aid and to organize first aid competitions in
mining area.

• To carry out duty of certifying surgeon.
• Carry out all work in connections with Appellate Medical Board and
Pneumoconiosis Medical Board/ Occupational disease Board under mines
rule.
• Enquiry of complaints and queries relating to health and welfare matters
in mines.
