               Organisational Structure, Functions


                            and Mapping of Offices




               2.1.   Introduction

               For the purpose of protecting the interests of employees engaged both in the
               organised  as  well  as  unorganised  sector,  promoting  workers’  welfare  and
               maintaining industrial harmony, the Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE)
               operates through its various attached offices, subordinate offices and autonomous
               institutions listed below:

               •     Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) (Central)
               •     Directorate General of Labour Welfare (DGLW)
               •     Directorate General of Employment (DGE)
               •     Directorate  General  Factory  Advice  Service  &  Labour  Institute
                     (DGFASLI)
               •     Labour Bureau (LB)
               •     Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS)

               •     Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)
               •     Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)
               •     V.V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI)
               •     Dattopant  Thengadi  National  Board  for  Workers  Education  and
                     Development (DTNBWED)
               All these organisations have their own governing structures and work under
               the  over  all  supervision,  guidance  and  monitoring  of  the  various  divisional
               hierarchies in the Ministry depicted  in the chart below :
