                3.8  Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)
               The  Employees’  State  Insurance  Corporation  (ESIC)  has  been  established
               under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948. The ESI Corporation provides
               comprehensive social security benefits, as per provisions under the Employees’
               State Insurance (ESI) Act, 1948, in the form of complete medical care and cash
               benefits to the insured employees, including family members, of the factories/
               establishments situated in its notified areas in the country as per eligibility.

               The Act  is  applicable  to  the  factories  and  establishments  having  ten  or  more
               employees,  drawing  wages  up  to  Rs.  21,000/-  (Rs.  25,000/-  for  persons  with
               disabilities).  The  ESI  scheme  is  extended  in  611  districts.  There  are  161  ESI
               hospitals and 1574 dispensaries across the country. Total number of Sanctioned
